In a historic move to improve tourism and strengthen international relations, Pakistan has implemented a new visa policy that waives entry fees for 126 nations. This policy, published on August 13, 2024, aims to make Pakistan a more accessible destination for international tourism.

The decision, branded a “quantum jump” by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was made at Wednesday’s federal cabinet meeting to attract companies, investors, tourists, and other travelers while also making doing business easier.

While relaxing visa policy, the cabinet approved the implementation of an online visa application system that would allow nationals of 126 countries to obtain business and tourist visas within 24 hours and be exempt from paying visa processing fees.

According to an official handout published by PM House, the prime minister stated that the cost of visa processing following the waiver would be paid by foreign cash obtained from investment and tourism, especially religious tourism, for which Pakistan has huge potential.

According to the statement, tourists would not only be able to obtain visas within 24 hours using the electronic travel authorization form, but they will also have access to e-gates at Gwadar Port and nine airports around Pakistan. Initially, the e-gates would be deployed at the Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi Airports.

This policy reflects Pakistan’s commitment to opening up to the world, making it easier for tourists and business visitors alike to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage and growing economy. The decision is expected to significantly increase the number of foreign visitors, contributing to economic growth and international goodwill.

Why This Policy Matters:

  • Tourism Growth: By removing financial barriers, Pakistan is set to attract more tourists, benefiting local businesses and the economy.
  • Economic Impact: Increased tourism and international investment are likely outcomes of this policy, which can help boost various sectors.
  • Diplomatic Relations: Waiving visa fees for such a large number of countries is a strategic move to foster better diplomatic and economic relations globally.

Pakistan’s new visa policy is a bold step that could reshape its global image, making it a more attractive destination for travelers and investors.

“The doors of Pakistan are now open to the world,” the minister stated, noting that this make an effort is part of a larger campaign to improve Pakistan’s worldwide image and attract more international visitors.
